Faces of the Getty Villa
The Getty Villa, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, California, is home to J. Paul Getty's antiquities collection. The museum is modeled after the Villa dei Papiri, A Roman country house in Herculaneum buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79.
This gallery contains the faces of the Getty. Most of the faces shown are of people that were once flesh and bone, no different than ourselves. The faces had names, some were identified as the merchant's wife or the Senator's son. Each had a story and a lifeline of events, some events were good others tragic ... no difference than those living today.
Other faces are of Gods and mythological heros.

A Cycladic man playing the harp (preliterate). Once again, abstract art playing a musical instrument all created before the written word. Somehow it makes me feel very humble.
